Today we got to explore the area around Palmer Station a little bit. Just in the backyard of Palmer is the shore of Arthur Bay (the one I can see from my room) and we decided to go for little rock clambering in this area in the late afternoon. Had our first close encounter with a couple local residents, a cute little Gentoo penguin (these are identified by their red beaks) and an elephant seal chilling out in the brash ice.

We were heading back when the sun started to set and what a sunset! Beautiful colors and it lasted for a good 15 minutes.
Fluid dynamics alert! Could not -not- take a picture of this. Saw this boulder with the snow scoured around it in a characteristic pattern associated with the "necklace vortex" of a surface mounted obstacle. Aerodynamics in action.!

Dinner was interesting. For the non-vegetarians, there was meatloaf, and for the vegetarians( which, I believe is only me), there was loaf made from TVP - texturized vegetarian product. I thought it would be awful but it was not half bad. Not I am not saying I could eat it on a regular basis but not bad at all! The chef also made a nice lentil soup which was almost reminiscent of daal. All in all, the food is really good. There is also a refrigerator with leftovers and you can raid that any time 24/7 and it has think like leftover pizza, pasta, banana nut bread. Tough to not gain weight here :(
Met up with people at the bar had a drink (or two) and played darts till 11:30. Lets see what exciting things are in store for tomorrow.
Great pictures! Good that there are stores in that ice world. I thought you would be eating canned food all the time... :)
